Green Ships’ diverse range of modern multi-role naval vessels

Next-Generation Naval Vessels  – smarter, greener, and built for modern missions

Green Ships AS was founded in 1996. We design fast, low-emission vessels, offshore, RoPax, cruise, and yachts-in close collaboration with leading shipyards and design partners in Norway and abroad.

Our focus today is next-generation naval ships.

We champion hybrid diesel-electric architectures with multiple identical gensets, independent switchboards, battery support, and 2–3 electric propulsors plus side thrusters—replacing gas turbines and heavy gearboxes. The result: lower cost and complexity, higher redundancy and survivability, and greater operational flexibility.
Our naval concepts emphasize lean-crew operations, multi-mission flexibility, advanced radar and counter-drone/missile defenses, and optional ASW – ready to build at Norwegian or international yards on proven hull forms.

Why our vessels?

Redundancy & survivability:
Separated engine rooms/control, resilient electrical plant, optional double-hull below the waterline.

Hybrid diesel-electric:
Fewer failure points, simplified upkeep, and  more flexible power distribution than  using gas-turbine.

Multi-mission flexibility:
Configurable sensors and effectors, modular mission bays, support for unmanned systems; optional ASW package. State-of-the-art  weapons systems.

Lean-crew architecture:
Automation and maintainable systems reduce manning and training burden over time.

Energy & fuel pathways:
Batteries, fuel cells, Tier III engines, with options for LNG/ammonia/hydrogen where appropriate.

Proven, buildable basis:
Concepts derived from tested hull types; deliverable via Norwegian or international yards.

Green Ships typically custom-designs these vessels according to client requirements. They can be built in Norway or at other designated facilities, and construction may follow DNV classification rules if specified.
Cost and Procurement Considerations
Final pricing for the ships depends on selected sensor and armament configurations, as well as the chosen shipyard. In general, modern naval ships have a cost breakdown of approximately 50% for the base platform and 50% for armaments and systems. However, due to the high-end equipment integrated into the GS vessels, the cost breakdown is closer to 40% platform and 60% systems.
Production and Financing
Green Ships AS is in contact with several advanced shipyards, both in Norway and internationally. These yards, while not traditional naval contractors, specialize in complex vessels (e.g., offshore support ships, RoPax ferries) and offer competitive pricing with short delivery times.
Financing solutions through private and state-backed maritime financing agencies can be arranged, including the possibility of leasing options for “grey” naval ships.
Further pricing details and technical specifications are available upon request.

In Summary
Our  concepts aim to balance speed, endurance, and survivability while reducing complexity and lifecycle cost. They are conceived as modular, multi-role platforms with scalable armament and sensor suites—supporting today’s state-of-the-art (main gun/CIWS, VLS, advanced radar/EO/ESM, C-UAS, optional ASW).
We aim to adapt to tomorrow’s effectors and unmanned systems via open-architecture combat systems and reserved margins for power, cooling, and topside weight.
We work with a broad network of national and international suppliers and operators, and we stay continuously aligned with current regulations, emerging threats, and future energy standards. If you’re assessing fast, modern naval platforms for current and future requirements, these designs warrant consideration.
